Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Praxis for?
Current and aspiring pastors. We focus on training men called to evangelize, shepherd, and oversee God's people in the local church.
How does the hybrid format work?
Most reading and coursework happen online. Each trimester includes a 3-day in-person intensive in Reno, NV, with lectures, discussion, and worship, so you never have to move away from your church.
When are classes and intensives?
Fall runs August to October (intensive the third week of September), Winter runs December to February (third week of January), and Spring runs April to June (third week of May). November, March, and July are breaks, and no classwork is due during Christmas week or Holy Week.
Where are the intensives held?
At Reforma Reno in the heart of Reno, about 10 minutes from the airport, with food and lodging within walking distance.
What degrees do you offer?
A Master's of Biblical Studies (MABS) for preaching pastors and church planters, and a Master's of Applied Theological Studies (MATS) for executive and associate pastors. Tracks include Senior Pastor, Executive Pastor, Music Pastor, and Pastor.
How long does it take?
Four years and 84 credits. Students take up to two classes per trimester, which leaves room for a full-time job. The slower pace is intentional, because formation takes time.
How much does it cost?
$250 per credit, or $200 for students from partner churches, about half of what most seminaries charge.
Do I need a Bachelor's degree?
No. Students without one do the same master's-level coursework and graduate with a Bachelor of Biblical Studies (BABS) or a Bachelor of Applied Theological Studies (BATS).
What does it take to apply?
A recommendation from your local church's pastoral leadership. Praxis works alongside your church and shares assessment feedback with your leaders.
What if I have to miss a term?
For serious hardship, you can apply for a make-up term, completing the coursework with a proctor and watching recorded lectures at the next intensive.
